Winner of the Bunny Chow Barometer 2008
2 July 2009
Taste of India are the winners of last year's Bunny Chow Barometer and certainly make every effort to live up to their reputation. Situated on a raised deck overlooking the busy Florida Road, this makes for an enjoyable atmosphere to enjoy a bunny chow.
More civilized and upmarket than your average side-of-the-road hatch with no plastic table cloths but real linen and interesting decor. It is somewhere you could take the wife and she wouldn't think you were being cheap.
We tried the quarter mutton and the quarter chicken. They come served on a plate (no newsprint wrapping), a selection of sambals, pickles and chutneys; with a garnish of fresh dhania. The bunny was huge, I mean massive. Not sure if I had ordered a half or not but it nearly got the better of me, but the taste kept me going. Tender chicken and awesome flavour - it was a treat.
Expect to pay R30 for the chicken and R35 for the mutton. Both were well worth it.
