Welcome to quarterbunny.co.za

Launched 01 July 2009

For five years Activate® thought of starting a website that would help locals and tourists find the best bunny chows in the greater Durban area of KZN, we started the Bunny Chow Barometer in 2004 for this reason. It all started when Chris Chappé and Donovan Baney were sitting having a bunny at Govenders (one of many!) and thought people should instantly know where to find a good one.

Button Badges-3.jpgAt QuarterBunny® we want anyone at anytime and anywhere to know where the best bunnies are to be found. For that we also need you! Give us your honest feedback and let us know if you think the lamb at one place is actually goat.

So, sign up, become a QuarterBunny® fan on Facebook, and let us know where to find the best bunny in town!

The House of Govenders
month of Govenders-sm-c.jpgJanuary | February 2010

Govenders House of Curries, Govenders Curry Kitchen, Govenders Curry Den... Govenders.com! There's a Govenders Indian Delights in Ireland and the name is actually Scottish! How the heck did the Govenders end up being Indian and does the surname actually originate from 'Gounder'? I mean, we all knew that the Gounders were originally a Kshatriya warrior clan from the Chola empire who later migrated to the Kongu Nadu, due to a conflict with the Imperial Cholas...!

We've decided to embark on an adventure to figure out the 'Govenbunny' family tree and QuarterBunny® have labelled the next foursome of bunny reviews as 'THE MONTH OF GOVENDERS'. What better place to start than with the Aunty herself (if she is?) - Mrs Govenders of 490 Sydney Road. Her brother, Danny Govender, is a stone's throw away with another take away outlet and Govenders in Eaton Road, a few blocks away, is yet another Uncle... Check out our first two reviews by clicking the links below and watch this space for our visits to the other two (or more) Govenders outlets.

Week One ? Mrs Govenders Curry Kitchen & Take-Away, Sydney Road
Week Two ? Govenders House of Curries, Blue Lagoon

The Berg Bunny

BNek Hotel-STB.jpgMountain rabbits in the Drakensberg... yes. But a bunny?

We were flippen excited when we visited a resort in the Southern Berg on New Year's Eve and spotted this predominantly Durban dish on the menu. The venue definitely tops any outlet back in the city - as far as the vibe is concerned, but as for the bunny chow itself... perhaps they need to source an Indian chef to make it more like the bunnies that we're used to back home.

Christmas snowglobe-sm.jpgDeck the halls with bunnies and all, tralalalala lala la la...

All of us here at the QuarterBunny® headquarters wish all you bunny lovers a jolly hot Festive Season and a New Year that's full of beans!

In our first six months of launching the world's first 'official' bunny chow website (OK, except for that bunnychow.co.za website that sells rabbit pellets!), we've sampled bunnies from over twenty different outlets in the greater Durban area and reviewed them here on the site. We've attracted 400 fans on Facebook, been mentioned a good few times in print and on-air, and even sold bunnies at a major surf event.

We have only just started the tummy rumbling and the year ahead promises to be a real scorcher! Look out for those t-shirts and other novelty items (we promised to deliver and haven't quite got around to finalising yet), further reviews, news, downloads, competitions, and MORE...

We hope to see you back in 20-10, fresher and hotter than ever!
